West Chester University of Pennsylvania (WCU) invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. The second largest of 14 comprehensive universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, WCU serves 13,000 undergraduate and graduate students. Detailed information is available at www.wcupa.edu. The town of West Chester is located 25 miles west of Philadelphia in the Brandywine Valley, a rapidly growing high-technology and pharmaceutical corridor.

The College of Arts and Sciences consists of 13 departments, 11 interdisciplinary programs, and three pre-professional programs in the humanities, sciences and social sciences. The College has approximately 250 faculty and 3,700 majors. WCU is seeking a visionary, dynamic, and experienced leader to head this College.

As chief academic officer of the College, the Dean provides leadership to advance the educational and scholarly missions of programs in the College and encourages an academic climate that is responsive, focused, innovative and entrepreneurial. Responsible for staffing, budgeting, and oversight of all operational functions of the College, the Dean must be skillful in human and financial resource management, strategic planning and committed to collaborative, ethical leadership. The Dean reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and sits on the Deans’ Council and President’s Council.

The successful candidate will possess a terminal degree in an academic discipline within the arts and sciences as well as a record of successful teaching and scholarly achievement. Leading candidates will have records of collaborative leadership in an academic unit and recruiting and retaining outstanding faculty and students. She or he must possess a demonstrated commitment to all areas of diversity, student learning and engagement, faculty development and the ideals of shared governance. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in fundraising and in expanding sponsored research. Finalists must successfully complete the interview process.
