New UPR Indirect Costs Rate Agreement Approved - 2008-2011

Finally, UPRM has been officially informed of the completion of the Indirect Costs negotiations with the Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS), UPR’s Cognizant Agency. New Indirect Costs rate were negotiated after a throrough evaluation of UPRs facilities used for research which involved an specialized company, Maximus, Inc, who helped UPR prepare a successful multiyear proposal to DHHS. As a result, new Indirect Costs Rate were approved for UPR, to be effective immediately until June 30, 2011.

The indirect costs which apply to UPRM are:

In-Campus: 50%

Off-campus: 26%

This Indirect costs rate applies to the Modified Total Direct Cost of Proposals, consisting of all salaries and wages, fringe benefits, materials, supplies, services, travel and subgrants and subcontracts up to the first $25,000 of each subgrant or subcontract (regardless of the period covered by the subgrant or subcontract). Modified total directs costs shall exclude equipment, capital expenditures, charges for patient care, tuition remission, rental costs of off-site facilities, scholarships, and fellowships as well as the portion of each subgrant and subcontract in excess of $25,000.
