forum (5 pts. ea. x 10 comments = 50 pts.)

This semester, you will watch 15 films in the Tuesday night film series. You will write 1 or more comments in the course forum for 10 out of the 15 weeks in the semester. You choose the weeks when you prefer to write. To receive credit, you must write a comment of at least 150 words and you must discuss the reading assigned and the film seen that week in the film series. Your comments serve as quizzes to show that you are reading and watching the assigned films. In the forum, you can ask questions and discuss your ideas and reactions to the films, the readings, and the class in general.  You can also discuss any questions or concerns you have about the material we are studying or anything else related to the course.  COMMENTS FOR EACH WEEK’S FORUM MUST BE WRITTEN BY 12 MIDNIGHT EACH WEDNESDAY. COMMENTS THAT ARE POSTED LATE, THAT ARE LESS THAN 150 WORDS, OR THAT DO NOT MENTION AND DISCUSS THE FILM AND/OR THE IDEAS BEING DISCUSSED IN CLASS THAT WEEK WILL RECEIVE NO CREDIT.

film project (100 points)

For this project, you will form groups and make a film together choosing one of the options in the instructions distributed for this project. We will start work on this project in class. Then each group will submit a proposal for the project to me. If the proposal is submitted late, 1 point will be subtracted from the project final grade for every day late, up to 10 points. Each group will then receive a series of assignments to do as steps designed to help develop the project. Although these assignments will not be graded, they will be included in the group portfolio for the project and taken into consideration in the grades given for the project.  Part of each person’s grade for the project will be based on the evaluations of the other members of the student’s group. If you prefer not to work on a group film project, speak with me about arranging to do an alternative assignment. You will receive a detailed instruction sheet and schedule for this project.

final exam (50 points)

This assignment will be a 3-5 page take-home essay on a topic related to film from 1950 to the present to be decided on in class. It is due on a date during the final examination period to be agreed upon in class.
