primera tertulia
Primera Tertulia de Filosofía, Ingeniería y Tecnología
Power Point Presentation, by Prof. Chris Papadopoulos
Engineering as an Enterprise of
War and Peace
La ingeniería como empresa de guerra y de paz
Jueves, 1 de octubre
10:30a – 12:00p (hora universal)
Salón Stefani 303
What are the bases for justifying and objecting to war? What does it mean to work for peace? How do engineers participate in war-making and peace building efforts, and conversely, how do these efforts shape engineers and the discipline of engineering? Do engineers encounter ethical dilemmas regarding appropriate uses of technology? How does engineering education prepare engineers to be aware of and address these issues?
Prof. Christopher Papadopoulos will open discussion of these questions based on his recent article “Engineering as an Enterprise of War and Peace” (~20 min). Following these remarks, the remainder of the tertulia will be devoted to open exchange and dialogue among all attendees. The discussion will be co-facilitated by Profs. Marcel Castro and Hector Huyke. All students, faculty, and staff are welcome.
